OpenAI launches app store, making ChatGPT your digital assistant

OpenAI just cranked ChatGPT up to “main character” status by cramming an app store directly into the chatbot.

No need to wander the web for Spotify, DoorDash, or Dropbox: now you can stalk your favorite playlists, meal-prep like a champ, and wrangle your endless Google Drive files—all without leaving your chat window.

OpenAI says the app directory is discoverable from the tools menu or directly from chatgpt.com/apps.

Each app gets a slick connect-and-authorize flow, and then every tool can be summoned with a simple @-mention inside your convos.

OpenAI’s also tempting developers: submit your own apps, plug into ChatGPT’s “ecosystem,” and maybe, eventually, make some money (for now, through external links—but more options could be on the way.

Sam Altman thinks this is the start of something bigger, where “apps in ChatGPT feel like a natural extension of the conversation” and the bot actually helps people get real things done—not just spit out witty haikus or vacation suggestions.

Get ready: your chatbot isn’t just your search buddy anymore. It’s about to run your digital life—whether you want it to or not.
